Lindsay Clancy Trial- Day 21
Rebuttal Witness- Dr. Gregory Saathoff- continues
On Direct/ Redirect
Says that the phone call and limited amount of time she had to carry things out shows her being in control
3 parts to suicide theory
Aloneness
Burdeness
Capability
Says while her attempt was very serious and she did have the first and second components, she ended up unintentionally not having the capability
Says that her reporting the internal thoughts being silent when she took Ativan proves it wasn't an external voice as that wouldn't happen
Says Lindsay was suffering from mental disease
Signs that lead him to believe she knew what she was doing was right or wrong:
locking the bedroom door
using the nearest weapons (exercise bands)
Awareness of the time she had to commit it
signs she was able to conform herself to the law:
All her actions of doctors appointments, taking the kids outside, making meals showed her level of control. The phone call with her husband while he was out, shows she knew to return the call to prevent worry on his part.
In his opinion she was criminally responsible in the death of her children.
Finds Dr. Tuffs approach was reasonable
bring up that they contacted Lindsay's family but heard nothing back.
On cross
Confirms the evaluation was done entirely by zoom
Hired January- February 2026 but contract wasn't finalized with his university until April. interviews weren't done until May 29th and June 4th.
They go over his resume and its shown that most of his work has been in prisons, for the government, and terrorisim.
Testifies that the powder that is assumed to be crushed up pills was never actually tested and not confirmed to be medication of any type.
Questioned about if a psychiatrist/Psychologist should ask for a blood test especially if patience keep reporting adverse reactions.
Says people who had a psychosis episode could misremember things. confirms that Lindsay told him she cut the screen but it wasn't cut.
Agrees it's more beneficial to interview the patient closer to the time of the incident
Agrees that Dr. resnick is a renowned psychologist on filicide and has written many published works about auditory and visual hallucinations.
Says he didn't say Lindsay betrayed her family but says that he used the words portrayed.
Says her parents were just visiting and staying over at the house, insinuating they weren't there because she needed help.
says her saying "i'm doing a bit better" or sending pictures of the kids and her. means she wasn't in terrible destress.
Didn't talk to Lindsay's mom, dad or sister. He contacted Attorney Sprag. Says he was told they wouldn't speak to him. He never tried to contact Reddington.
Confirms that Lindsay has been co operative in giving all information and doing evaluations.
When read the prosecutions statement in opening about Lindsay being tired of her life and no longer having the control she wanted, he said that really minimized what she was going through in his opinion
Thoughts:
These last few witnesses have been A LOT of repetitive information. Yes, she's mentally ill and was in 2022-2023. The medications and providers and her reaching out for help was all the same. She's said the same thing to everyone. The only really 'new' things that these witnesses brought was to say she was criminally responsible. however Dr. Avram Mack didn't really testify well at all, Dr. Kirk Heilburn came off as a strong witness, This last guy Dr. Saathoff seems knowledgable at times but the fact that there was a 5- 10 second gap between a question being asked and his answer, stuck me as odd. There was times were he rambled and didn't answer questions that even the prosecution asked him. Lastly, one thing i've noticed time and time again as photos and videos are taken of Lindsay is that her eyes look like she's not even there. compared to the smiling happy women before, when her eyes had life in them. now they seem empty, like she's just a shell of someone that once was.
