Lindsay Clancy Trial- Day 14 Part 2

Defence Case Begins


Witness 1- Margaret Hamp - Called by Defence

Labour and delivery nurse @ mass gen.


  • worked with Lindsay for 7 years as a labour delivery nurse on a night shift.

  • States Lindsay loved being a nurse, She has a compassionate, kind, loving demeanour and was a type of nurse you would want looking after your loved one

  • Lindsay would often be emotional over patients who had given birth stating "it's just so beautiful"

  • Described Lindsay as a caring mom who wanted who always asked questions and listened to advice on things like questions you should ask your childcare provider

  • After callen was born she sent a gift and a bit after Lindsay reached out & thanked her but she didn't see her in person after she left on maternity leave.

  • Recalls a time where Lindsay was checking the cameras in Cora's room on her phone and Cora was crying which Lindsay never liked or did the let your kids cry method, she then called Patrick but when he didn't answer she got worried and called the police for a wellness check in the middle of the night


On Cross the prosecution points out

  • everyone was fine in the above incident with Cora

  • that the witness never visited Lindsay after callen was born and had no idea what her life was like

  • inquired about patients with mental illness and on medications and that medications like Zoloft were considered safe and that patients had to be medically compliant for it to work


On redirect

  • Reddington asks about a time when they treated a patient that had plans to harm herself while pregnant.

  • witness confirms and says it was the first summer Lindsay had started working there and they sat down to discuss it, the witness referenced the Andrea Yates Case and Lindsay couldn't understand how a mother could hurt her babies.


Witness #2 - Allison Ozga- Called by defence

  • Lindsay's sister, Close but haven't lived in the same state for 10 years

  • Seen her sister on thanksgiving 2022. She had known Lindsay wasn't well through previous conversations but this being the first time seeing her in person in some time she noticed something seemed off, low mode.

  • In December they got together again and she recalls she decompensated significantly and witness asked if she was safe. At that time Lindsay said yes.

  • By Christmas Lindsay had said she wasn't doing good, reported depressed mood, suicidal thoughts, insomnia. Witness says she began reaching out to Pat directly.

  • Aware that she was seeing doctors and had a bad reaction to Zoloft

  • Lindsay mentioned to her at one point she had suicidal ideation for everyday of the last month.

  • Talked about how Lindsay's parents have been living in hotels just to be there daily for Lindsay

  • She was aware of Lindsay stay at Mclean and thought she seemed a bit better via text in the weeks after.


On cross


  • There were some things "she couldn't recall"

  • Maintained she only spoke to Lindsay over text in January from her memory

  • Other answers about meds, struggles or conversations with investigators, her answers were short and to the point


Witness #3- Paula Musgrove- Called by defence

  • Says Lindsay was a good kid, a great student, no problems with the law

  • Describes how much she loved her grandchildren and how much they meant to her

  • Describes Lindsay as a fun and loving mother. She wanted lots of kids, dedicated to her children and do anything for them.

  • She texts her mom on October 20th to come out as she is scared to be alone. her mom came and stays for about a week.

  • Noticed around 2nd week in October Lindsay became very anxious

  • For the rest of October and through November and December she and her husband at times would come out and stay with Lindsay and Patrick and help with the kids

  • notes late November to December Lindsay was not getting any better and in fact asked to sleep with her mom one night she was so afraid

  • she said Lindsay stopped driving and then became paranoid that people knew something was wrong with her because she stopped driving.

  • She was there when Lindsay self admitted to Mclean Hospital

  • Patricks parents would help in the times that her parents weren't there

  • In January Lindsay tells her the medication is ruining her mind, she couldn't remember

  • Prosecution inquires about the days she wasn't there and Lindsay would sometimes say,

  • she was having a good day

  • she got some sleep the previous night

  • things seemed a little better

  • On cross the prosecution points out that she was always doing things with the kids to "Keep them and her busy"

  • prosecution points out that mom did daily check ins when not there and Lindsay would say she was doing well, or good, taking things day by day or a little bit

  • comes up for the weekend on jan 21& 22, her mom says on Sunday " glad to see everyone, nice to see you doing better" Paula states this was to encourage her


Witness #4- Dr.Michael Vulfovich- Called by the defence

Emergency Medical Doctor- Expert Witness


  • spoke to his review of Lindsay's medical records

  • found them consistent with an suicide attempt

  • and that her injuries would happen from jumping out the window not sliding down like the prosecution suggests.

  • He described Lindsay's coding event as needing two rounds of cardopulmonary resuscitation (medications, compressions, etc.)

  • The prosecution objected like 4-5 times and all were sustained except the last one at which reddington withdrew it.


Most of these were quick testimonies. Margaret (lindsay's co worker) became emotional on the stand at times, Same with her mother. Her sister was strong and kind of gave the prosecution a dose of thier own medicine by saying "I can't recall" a lot haha. Finally the emergency medicine doctor basically confirmed how injured Lindsay was and spoke more about the coding incident which shows how close to death she really was.
